Casino Artspace is a non-profit providing an umbrella for DIY arts & community-based projects in Hamilton.
Casino Artspace is a non-profit organization that serves as an umbrella for DIY arts and community-based projects in the emerging Hamilton art scene. The founders wanted a website and a working identity to support their application for arts grants and help their members showcase their creative portfolios. The website needed to be technically robust enough to accommodate a variety of content without locking artists into a particular visual style.
Casino Artspace is a network of artists that operates on DIY culture, transdisciplinary projects, inclusive community, and spectacular events. Since its inception in late 2014, Casino has provided affordable artist studios, a gallery and venue space, a publishing imprint, and an online platform. The space has included over 35 artists, been host to over 25 events annually, and attracted an annual attendance ranging from 500 - 3000.
However, since 2018, Casino has shifted from running the physical location at 176 Mary St. to operating solely as an online platform. Despite this change, Casino continues to serve as a collaborative space for artists, producing one-of-a-kind, large-scale projects. These collaborative projects have included affordable artist studios, a gallery, a venue, a digital platform, a publishing imprint, commercial work for clients, and event production.
In summary, Casino Artspace is a non-profit organization that provides a collaborative space for artists to showcase their work and produce large-scale projects. Though the physical location at 176 Mary St. has been closed since 2018, the organization continues to operate as an online platform, providing a space for artists to collaborate, share their work, and participate in the Hamilton art scene.
