Website redesign for Photo London, the international photography fair at Olympia presenting historic, vintage and emerging photography annually.
Photo London is an internationally celebrated photography fair held annually at Olympia, London, presenting the finest historic, vintage and emerging photography alongside a rich public programme of exhibitions, installations and awards. The website redesign creating a platform befitting one of the most significant events in the international art world calendar.
The redesign required balancing the needs of a complex, multi-audience organisation: galleries and exhibitors, collectors and VIP visitors, press, students and the broader photography community. The site needed to function simultaneously as an editorial destination and an institutional presence, clearly communicating the breadth of the fair across its exhibitor listings, awards, talks programme, academy and archive.
The design draws on Photo London's identity to create a considered and refined visual experience in keeping with the fair's reputation for presenting photography at the highest level. Typography, hierarchy and layout were carefully considered to ensure the work of photographers and galleries is foregrounded, while navigation across a large and varied content structure remains intuitive and direct.
Particular attention was given to how the site communicates the fair's programme across multiple sections: the Discovery section dedicated to emerging galleries and artists, the Public Programme of special exhibitions and installations, the Beyond the Fair satellite events, and the various awards including the Photo London Master of Photography Award.
The result is a website that reflects the ambition and stature of Photo London, supporting the fair's mission to bring the finest international photography to the British capital each year.
